Reckon the name James Glickenhaus? Well, not many of the people around the world, let alone India has heard about this man, who was behind the iconic projects of stunning Ferrari Enzo-based P4/5 by Pininfarina and its P4/5 Competizione racing variant. The same guy is working on a new project called SCG 003, where “SCG” means Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus, initials of Glickenhaus’ own brand. The 003 represents the fact that this is Glickenhaus’ third major car project.
The other two projects were Lola T70 Can-Am racer he converted for road use, and the aforementioned P4/5 by Pininfarina. SCG, which is both a constructor and race team has released some new teaser shots of the 003. Glickenhaus earlier stated that he will be building only two units of 003, to compete in the 2015 Nurburgring 24 hour Le Mans in May and hence, the teaser images can be linked to a Le Mans prototype.
Not only did Glickenhaus designed the car, he also designed the engine for the race spec car. The race spec car will have a twin-turbocharged 3.5 litre V6 engine, loosely based on Honda’s HPD motorsport division engine. The road version of the car will get a choice of engines with top-of-the-line twin-turbocharged V-12 unit. Though when will the road version will come, no one knows.
But what makes SCG 003 a special car is not the brute power, but the lightweight chassis and aerodynamics. The images revealed showcases the chassis complete with carbon fibre materials. The best power to weight ratio ever achieved by a production car is by Koenigsegg One:1, which promises a power to weight ratio of one horsepower for every kilogram of weight, and 003 promises to repeat this ratio.
All this high tech stuff doesn't come cheap and according to Mr. Glickenhaus, the road legal car will cost somewhere upwards of $ 2 million and will be revealed at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show in March.
