And finally the Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV arrives in the country for the R&D purposes. A Facebook fan page by the name Team Fiat Moto Club has spotted a Jeep Cherokee bearing a Maharshtra number plate in a Fiat dealership in Chennai indicating that the launch of the SUV is nearing. The MH number plate also indicates that the car is imported for testing purposes.
Fiat already confirmed that they will be launching two models in the coming years in the country. While the Jeep Cherokee will be the first Jeep model to be launched in the Indian market, the Wrangler will follow soon. Some reports suggest that Cherokee will arrive at dealerships by the festive season this year and FCA will open 15 exclusive dealerships to sell the Jeep SUVs in India.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee comes powered by a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine that produces power output of 240ps at 3600rpm and a peak torque of 569Nm at 2000rpm. The engine comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission gearbox and has got paddle shifts on the steering wheel. The SUV also gets three driving modes- automatic, manual and a sport mode.
On the looks front, the Jeep Grand Cherokee is massive with a traditional six tooth grille in the front. The aggressive stance and massive haunches are meant to attract buyers who are looking for an SUV with style. Inside the cabin, the vehicle is luxurious and spacious and gets a large audio visual touch screen in the centre console.
Like mentioned above, the Cherokee SUV is expected to launch around October this year and is expected to priced at Rs 35 - 45 Lakh!
