- Jeep Compass to get Diesel-Automatic Combo
- Diesel unit would be a BS 6 compliant
- To be introduced with front-wheel drive only
- Diesel-Automatic Combo version will not be offered on the top Variant Limited Plus
Just after the launch of the Jeep Compass Trailhawk, FCA India is planning to launch a diesel-automatic combo in India that will be affordable compared to the Trailhawk. Jeep Compass Trailhawk recently made its launch with a sticker price of Rs 26.8 lakh, which is Rs 3.7 lakh pricier than the top-end Limited Plus diesel 4X4 variant. To make it more affordable for the buyers, Jeep Compass would soon launch diesel-automatic combo by the festive season, this year.
Jeep Compass SUV is likely to draw its power from a BS 6 compliant 2.0-litre diesel unit that develops 171 bhp of maximum power with 350 Nm of top torque, mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission, which is also offered on the lower as well as the mid-spec variant. However, the automatic transmission offering will not be made on the top-end Limited Plus, as the pricing would be too close to the Trailhawk version and moreover, this variant will not get Jeep’s popular 4X4 system as it is likely to raise the price tag as well and will indeed come with front-wheel drive.
In India, Jeep Compass which is priced within a range of Rs 15.60 lakh to Rs 26.8 lakh (Jeep Compass Trailhawk) competes with the likes of the Mahindra XUV500 (Priced between Rs 15.32-18.45 lakh), Hyundai Tucson (tagged between Rs 23.62-26.95 lakh), Volkswagen Tiguan (Rs 28.07 lakh - Rs 31.46 lakh) and to some point, it also rivals Tata Harrier (Rs 13 lakh to Rs 16.76 lakh) and recently launched MG Hector (Rs 12.18 lakh to Rs 16.88 lakh). However, the Harrier and MG Hector are not offered with a diesel automatic combo, but recently we reported that Tata Harrier Diesel automatic combo with sunroof was spotted testing on the outskirts of Bengaluru.
