The Made-in-India Jeep Compass was launched in India yesterday with two engine options - a 1.4-litre Turbo Multiair petrol engine and a 2.0L Multijet II Turbo diesel engine. While the petrol variant has been launched with both manual (6-speed) and automatic (7-speed dual-clutch) transmission options, the diesel variant comes only with a 6-speed manual gearbox. However, If reports are to be believed, the company will soon introduce an automatic transmission variant with a diesel engine. Unlike the petrol unit, it will have a 9-speed automatic gearbox. The Jeep Compass diesel variant with automatic transmission is expected to launch in India in January 2018.
According to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), the parent company of Jeep, the company has already received around 5,000 bookings, and deliveries are expected to begin from August 06, 2017. Initially, only diesel units will be delivered. Delivery of petrol units will start in the festive season around Diwali.
The diesel engine of Jeep Compass is able to produce a maximum power output of 173 bhp, and deliver a mileage of up to 17.1 kmpl (ARAI certified). The top-end diesel model features a four-wheel-drive system, which is not available as an option with petrol variants. The Jeep Compass petrol engine, on the other hand, can produce a maximum power output of 162 bhp.
The Jeep Compass has been loaded with a wide range of safety features. Features like ABS with EBD, dual front airbags, Electronic Parking Brake (EPB), Electronic stability control (ESC) are standard across all variants, while the top-end variants get features like six airbags, Keyless entry, Push start-stop along with a 7-inch infotainment system with support to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The price of Jeep Compass starts from Rs. 14.95 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, Delhi) and goes up to Rs. 20.65 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi ) for the top-end editions.
