First up is the retro styled and iconic Jeep Wrangler that has been launched only in its long wheelbase trim - the Wrangler Unlimited. It is powered by a 2.8-litre diesel engine that produces 200 horses and is mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox. The standard four-wheel drive system with heavy duty solid axles and a lockable centre console makes it a rugged SUV.
Next in line is the Grand Cherokee SUV, that will be the flagship for Jeep in India. The Grand Cherokee is made available in three trims - Limited, Summit and the high-performance SRT. Both the Grand Cherokee Limited and Summit variants are powered by a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine good for 240 HP power. The engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox and delivers 12.8 kmpl.
The Grand Cherokee SRT on the other hand, is powered by a massive 6.4-litre Hemi V8 petrol engine. The unit is capable to generate 475 hp of raw power and can go from 0-100 kmph in as less as 5 seconds. All the three Cherokee variants are mated to a Quadratrack-2 four wheel drive system. Jeep will launch the petrol variants by the year end in India.
Jeep has commissioned 10 dealerships to start its operation in India, including the ones in Ahmedabad and New Delhi, which are already operational. The Chennai and Mumbai dealership will open in October, followed by Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Kochi and Bangalore later this year.
