It's finally happening! After making its official debut at the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi in February, Jeep will launch the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee SUVs on 1st September, 2016 in India. This is a good news for the Jeep fans who were eagerly waiting for the official entry of the Fiat owned American SUV manufacturer to enter India, ever since the rumors started four years back.
Talking about the face of the company, the Jeep Wrangler first - it will be available in the 4-door Unlimited version in the country. The Wrangler is powered by a 2.8-litre CRD turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine that produces 195 hp at 3,600 rpm and 460 Nm of torque at 1,600-2,000 rpm. Power is sent to all the four wheels via a 5-speed automatic transmission and distributed via a Command-Trac four-wheel drive system.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee on the other hand, will be sold in two grades - Limited and Summit. And then there will be uber-cool and incredibly fast high-performance variant – the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT. It’s powered by the 3.0-litre EcoDiesel turbocharged V6 diesel engine that produces 240 hp and 570 Nm of torque. Power is transferred to all the four wheels via an 8-speed paddle-shift operated automatic transmission and distributed via the Quadra-Trac II (Limited)/Quadra Drive II (Summit) system.
As for the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT, it's powered by a 6.4-litre HEMI naturally aspirated V8 petrol engine that churns out 469.17 hp and 630 Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission and distributed between them via the Quadra-Trac four-wheel drive system.
