The Jeep Wrangler Rubicon images show ‘On Test By ARAI’ stickers on the test mule implying the model is here for the process of homologation. Jeep is expected to launch the Jeep Wrangler JL in India later this year as a CBU unit. Currently, in its third generation, the new-gen Jeep Wrangler JL Rubicon is also being tested in 2-door version and Sahara version as well.
For those not in the know, Jeep Wrangler JL Rubicon is the most rugged variant of the four trims in the carline including Sport, Sport S and Sahara variants. The Rubicon grade is touted as the most off-road capable trim in the Jeep Wrangler JL line-up. Interestingly, the Rubicon name is inspired by the Rubicon Trail in California which is known as one of the toughest off-road trails in the USA. In visual terms, the Rubicon variant takes styling cues from the Sahara variant, albeit the shiny accents on the front bumper have been left out in tandem with its rugged character.
The bonnet features the large Rubicon decals, while 17-inch wheels tied around 32-inch and 33-inch off-road tyres lend character to the rugged model. The Rubicon variant comes with a large BF Goodrich tyres, steel off-road rock rail and skid plates, high-clearance fended flares, third-generation Dana 44 heavy-duty axles with Tru-Luk front and rear locking differentials, Rock-Trac 4x4 system with a low-gear ratio of 4:1, electronic front sway bar disconnect. The Jeep Wrangler Rubicon interior packs in a host of comfort and connectivity bits such as a 7-inch full-colour Driver Information Display, 7-inch infotainment touchscreen display supported by Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In addition to the above features, there is dual-zone automatic climate control, 8-speaker sound system with overhead sound bar, leather-wrapped steering wheel, tyre pressure monitoring display, push-button start, a 115-volt auxiliary power outlet, 12-volt outlets and several others.
As for Jeep Wrangler Rubicon specs, it is available with three engine choices internationally including a 3.6-litre Pentastar naturally aspirated petrol unit with 284 PS and 347 Nm torque, a 2.0-litre T-GDi turbocharged petrol engine with 272 PS and 400 Nm torque. There is a 2.2-litre Multijet II turbo oil burner as well which puts out 200 PS along with 450 Nm torque. Both petrol units and a single oil burner get Stop-Start (ESS) feature. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Coming to the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon price in India, it will be on the higher side as Jeep is planning to bring it here as a completely built unit (CBU).
