The 2015 MotoGP World Champion has decided to shift from HJC branded helmets to Shark branded helmets for next three years. It is well known that Lorenzo had suffered issues with HJC branded helmets in last couple of year where he suffered fogging of the wiser in wet racing conditions on more than one occasion and including other issues such as a lose helmet liner at the 2015 MotoGP opening round in Qatar that hindered his vision during the race.
Lorenzo's new helmet provider Shark, is a French helmet maker which has a established name in the motorcycle racing fraternity and in global markets too. The deal will see Lorenzo signed up for three years starting 2016 MotoGP season. AMong the other racer who race wearing SHark helmets in MotoGP and World Superbikes are famous names such as Olivier Jacque, Carl Fogarty, Randy De Puniet, and Troy Corser. Also, Shark is at present helmet provider for Aleix Espargaro, Johann Zarco, the Lowes twins Alex and Sam, Tom Sykes, Sylvain Guintoli, Scott Redding and Miguel Oliveira, among others.
For 2016 and onwards Lorenzo had an option to extend his contract with HJC which Lorenzo had been riding with since 2013 MotoGP season. However, Lorenzo understandably looked the other way, owing majorly due the issues he had suffered at the top level, issues that made him reconsider his contract.
Talking about the deal in a press release, Lorenzo has thanked the Korean helmet manufacturer and in particular, the owner Hong family, for the support they have provided to the three time MotoGP World champion over the duration of three years that he was with them. Lorenzo further added that he feel impressed and attracted by the path Shark wants to head into future, especially the next three years and he would very much like to be a part of that.
The 2016 MotoGP season begins on March 20th, 2016 and we reckon missing it would make you feel sorry!!
