Schumacher is a brand in itself and it's hard to carry the legacy Michael Schumacher created. But Schumacher's son has done exactly the opposite of it and won the debut race in the Formula 4 series. Mick Shumacher dedicated the win to his father, who is still recovering from the tragic skiing accident in 2013 that left the 7-time world champion in a coma for 6 months.
"It's just amazing to win a race in my first 'formula' event," said the shy 16-year-old Mick Schumacher. Junior Schumacher is under a lot of scrutiny from the media who was until now racing with the surname 'Junior' or 'Betsch'. German daily Die Welt also observed that he has the "same sponsors, same manager, same helmet supplier" as his father.
Sabine Kehm, Shumacher's manager, who is also guarding the privacy of his father, is also looking after the son and closely watching his privacy. Die Welt says that in one such incident, Kehm said "I'm sorry' to some fans asking Mick's interview and has put strict restrictions as he is not allowed to give "no interviews, no appearances at press conferences, no profiles on social networks".
Deutsche Vermogensberatung, the long time sponsor of Michael Schumacher is backing his son and the company spokesperson said, "We expect nothing from Mick." To an extent is the confidence of sponsors that they are ready for "no results, no appearances with our company logo, nothing". We certainly hope the Mick soon enters the mainstream championship and makes his father proud.
