Finally, Kawasaki has awakened to the call of competition and launched its naked models Z250 and ER-6n, today. Both the bikes will sport an aggressive street fighter style and will be available through the CKD units from the Thailand. The retailing will be done through the existing Probiking Showrooms operated by Baja Auto Limited and will be priced Rs 4.78 lakh for the ER-6n and Rs 2.99 lakh for the Z250 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Although, the current CKD models meant for India will be without ABS systems. Mr. Yoshitaka Tamura, MD, India Kawasaki says that they are looking to change that and introduce all these models with ABS soon. Speaking on the sales volume, Tamura says that, Kawasaki is looking to sell 200 units of the Z250 and 300 units of the ER-6n in a span of one year.

The Z250 will be powered by a 249cc engine producing 32 PS @ 11000 rpm and a maximum torque of  21Nm @ 10000rpm. The power will sent to the rear wheel via a 6 speed, constant mesh type gearbox. On the other hand, the ER-6n will be powered by a 649cc engine producing 72PS @ 8500rpm and a maximum torque of  64Nm @ 7,000rpm. The gearbox for the ER-6n will remain the same.

Commenting on the launch, Mr. Yoshitaka Tamura, Managing Director, India Kawasaki Motors said "The Indian premium segment motorcycle market offers tremendous growth opportunities. We had launched five of our superbikes and received an impressive response for these models. To further strengthen our presence in the country, we are now launching two more globally renowned but more affordable models. I hope those two new models would enable us to have a further commitment to Indian market through Probiking showrooms."

The newly launched Z250 and ER-6n will join the current line-up of ZX-14R, ZX-10R, Ninja 1000, Z1000, Ninja 300, and Ninja 650. The 250cc segment is the highly competitive segment with the likes of KTM, Bajaj, Honda and Yamaha gracing their presence, while the 650cc segment is virtually non- existent with only a handful of bikes available for the buyers.
