Kia is readying itself to make its first debut in India at the upcoming Auto Expo to be held in February, where the company’s Niro hybrid crossover and Sportage SUV have been spotted in a yard in the country. The Niro has been spotted for the very first in the country. Apart from that, Kia Motors is also building a manufacturing for the models to be introduced and will be operational by 2019.
The Euro-spec Kia Niro is powered with a hybrid powertrain that would be a 1.6-litre 4-cylinder petrol unit combined with a 1.56 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery, where the engine makes around 104bhp and 147Nm of top torque, while the electric motor adds an additional power of around 43bhp to the total output. The transmission duties will be carried out with a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission. Whereas, the Sportage SUV in Europe is available in a 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engine that develops 153bhp and 192Nm, and 182bhp with 402Nm, respectively. A 2.4-litre petrol is also offered with 181bhp and 237Nm of top torque.
Though, Kia Motors has not confirmed as to which models will be initially launch in India, but it is being speculated that their first product that would make its launch is going to be a mid-sized SUV.
