Kia is gearing up to be the latest entrant in highly competitive Indian car market and the brand has already started building its production plant in Andhra Pradesh. At the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo, Kia had a very exciting product lineup and it impressed us all with a brand new concept SUV christened as SP Concept. This concept car gave us the preview of Kia’s first car to be launched in the domestic market. What’s more exciting is that the South Korean brand is planning to launch four more cars in next 18 months.
This strategy means, the brand will have a total of five cars on offer for the Indian buyers. Clearly, despite being a late entrant, Kia doesn’t want to waste any more time to become a strong player here. In an attempt to become that, Kia is focusing on a wide range of products and an expanded retail network as well. Considering what Kia displayed at the recently concluded Auto Expo, we can expect Kia to launch cars in different segments that see pretty good demand here.
While the Kia SP Concept based SUV will enter production in mid 2019, there will be two more cars produced locally in the Kia’s Andhra Pradesh facility. Apart from that, there will be two CKD models as well that will be assembled in the same plant. It is very much evident that Kia is emphasizing on the localization of its products in order to keep pricing competitive in a tough market like India.
While Kia is tight lipped about what are going to be the other models apart from SP Concept based SUV, Sportage and Sorento could be two models that will be imported as CKD. Kia hopes to see good response from the Indian buyers. The brand is relying on the stylish and sporty global standard design of its cars along with upmarket features and efficient, powerful engines. We hope learn more about Kia’s India strategy in near future.
