Kia is making quite a buzz in Indian car market with its upcoming products. The South Korean automaker is planning to launch an electric vehicle that will be manufactured locally in the automaker’s Anantpur plant in Andhra Pradesh. This electric vehicle is likely to be launched in the country in 2021. Also, the brand will roll out three cars in the country in next three years and the first model will be based on the SP Concept that was showcased at 2018 Delhi Auto Expo.
Not only the fully electric model, but Kia also plans to produce and launch hybrid cars in its Andhra Pradesh plant. This factory will be able to roll out 3 lakh cars per year once it becomes fully operational. As, India is thriving towards the zero emission pure electric mobility, Kia wants to grab a good share in the eco-friendly vehicle market.
As Kia says, the automaker wants to position itself as an eco-friendly car brand in India. It wants to be the pioneer in the segment. The upcoming electric vehicle scheduled to be launched by 2021 will play a key role in that strategy.
Speaking about the first car from Kia in India, the SP Concept based sub-4 metre compact SUV will challenge the Ford EcoSport and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. The stylish and sporty looking urban SUV has already garnered pretty good attention and it is likely to be priced competitive.
