- Kia QYI sub-4-metre SUV spied testing in India.
- Kia QYI to be based on Hyundai Venue.
- Kia QYI might Seltos' 1.5L diesel motor.
Kia Motors has been working on a sub-compact SUV for the Indian market for quite some time now. Being codenamed as QYI, it was recently spotted testing on Delhi roads with heavy camouflage for the first time. It has been learned that Kia QYI will share several elements such as platform, dimensions, and features with the Hyundai Venue. Kia could launch the QYI by the festive season of 2020 with a starting price of Rs 6.50 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom).
Going by the spy-shots, Kia QYI will come loaded with traditional headlamps as opposed to the split-headlamp design of Hyundai Venue, on which it is based. The fog lamp units will be positioned on the bumper while roof rails and shark fin antenna are also visible in the spy images. Although, alloy wheels are missing and the SUV can be seen riding on steel wheels.
The Kia QYI cabin is expected to be on the same lines as Hyundai Venue with almost identical features and upholstery. It could debut a few first-in-segment features.
Mechanically, the QYI is believed to get sister SUV Venue's engines and transmission options. The petrol variants will have the 1.2L 4-cylinder engine which develops top power of 82bhp and peak torque of 115Nm. It comes mated with a 5-speed manual gearbox with the Venue. The diesel variants of QYI, though, might not get Venue's 89bhp 1.4L diesel engine but the Seltos' more powerful 1.5L unit which generates 113bhp and 250Nm. It could be paired with a 6-speed manual transmission as standard. Both the engines will be BS 6 certified and Kia might also include Venue's 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine in top variants.
