Kia Seltos outsells the Brezza for the top sales spot in Oct 2019.
Brezza had just reclaimed the top spot from the Venue a month before.
Hyundai Venue in third place now.
The top five UVs are Hyundais, Marutis, and a Kia.
The Kia Seltos and MG Hector garnered a massive number of bookings when they were launched, but unlike MG, Kia had confidence in its production facility and didn’t shut bookings. As a result, the Seltos has over 60,000 bookings and as a result of the ramping up of the production facility in Anantapur, it has overtaken the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza for the top spot in the sales charts.
The Seltos sold 6236 units in August, 7554 units in September, and 12,786 units in October. The Vitara Brezza managed 10,227 units in the same month. The Maruti product is limited by its lack of engine and transmission options – it is currently available powered by a single diesel engine, and with a manual gearbox only.
The Kia Seltos, on the other hand, has a choice of two petrol engines and one diesel engine, and each of those motors has the option of either a manual or an automatic gearbox. The Seltos also covers a massive price range of Rs 9.69 lakh ex-showroom, up to Rs 16.99 lakh, ex-showroom.
Maruti has committed to an all-petrol vehicle range by the time BS Vi emission norms kick in, in April 2020, so the Brezza will get a petrol engine and an automatic gearbox by then as well.
Third on the list is the Hyundai Venue, another SUV from the same Korean umbrella that owns both Kia and Hyundai. It had briefly held the top spot on the sales charts for a couple of months ago but now is in third place with 8576 units. In fourth place is another Hyundai, Creta, with 7269 units.
The Kia Seltos seems to be eating into the sales of Creta, but the upcoming 2020 Creta will fight back when launched. In fifth place on the sales, charts are the first MPV format UV – the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, with 7197 units sold. Just one year ago, the top five UVs sold were the Vitara Brezza, Creta, Mahindra Bolero, Toyota Innova, and Tata Nexon.
