Kia Seltos has registered over 60,000 bookings in the Indian market since its launch. Manohar Bhat, VP, and Head of Sales and Marketing, Kia Motor India revealed this while speaking to Economic Times.
The huge demand has propelled the company to start a second shift at the Anantpur production unit in order to achieve a monthly production of 15,000 units. The start of the second shift has also resulted in employment for 1000 people.
Kia had proposed annual capacity of 3 Lakh units at its Anantpur facility to accommodate its first six product launches in the country. However, Seltos alone is consuming more than half of the plant's capacity and it has led the South-Korean automaker to ramp up the production capacity in order to make way for other models.
It has also been learned that Kia is also considering to start a third shift in an effort to increase the initially planned production capacity of 3 Lakh units to 4 Lakh units.
Kia Seltos has been dominating the compact SUV segment which comprises the likes of Hyundai Creta, Jeep Compass, MG Hector and Tata Harrier.
The company has already announced the launch of Carnival in January 2020, while speculations are rife that the next launch after this would take place in July of a sub-compact SUV, on the lines of Hyundai Venue and Tata Nexon.
Kia Motors India has invested a huge sum of US$ 1.1 billion (Around Rs. 7,755 Crores) in setting up the production facility in Anantapur and it intends to double the investment to US$ 2 billion (Rs. 14,100 Crores) in the coming time.
