Kia Seltos has been launched in the US market.
Gets two petrol engines, a 1.6-liter turbo, and a 2.0-liter NA.
Two Kia Seltos X-Line concepts were on display at the LA Auto Show.
One Urban focused and one off road focused.
The Kia Seltos has been launched in the US market. As part of the launch marketing, two concepts based on the Seltos were displayed at the LA Auto Show – one called the ‘Urban Concept’, and a second which requires a deep breath, being called the ‘X-Line Trail Attack Concept’.
The Kia Seltos Urban Concept gets gold-finished 17-inch alloy wheels. In addition, it gets an integrated bulbar at the front, a skid plate, a hood scoop, contrasting mirrors, blacked-out windows and roof, a roof carrier with four auxiliary lamps mounted on top, and an additional 51 mm of ground clearance.
Since the US market requires an all-wheel-drive in a lot of areas to deal with winter, the Seltos Urban Concept sports an AWD system with a center differential lock.
The Kia Seltos X-Line Trail Attack Concept has the same AWD system and increased ground clearance as the Urban Concept, but has more of an offroad focus.
It gets four more auxiliary lights in front of the grille, dual two hooks in the front, an integrated winch, a very interesting wheel rim design that makes it look like steel wheels, and blacked-out underside bits like the skid plates.
Interestingly, the tyres don’t seem to be especially off-road focused. While the headlamps for the Urban Concept remain the LED array that we’re used to seeing here, the X-Line Trail Attack Concept’s headlamps are conventional halogen bulbs, and it doesn’t have LED DRLs either.
There is no word on whether the AWD system of the off-road concept gets any special tuning or modes to help it get further off the beaten path.
Kia hasn’t mentioned if the power units for the two concepts are any different, so we assume they have either of the two petrol engines offered in the US market under their hoods – there is a 2 litre naturally aspirated four-pot that generates 145 bhp and 179 Nm, and a 1.6 litre turbo petrol that makes 173 bhp and 265 Nm.
