Kia Sonet (QYI) will go up against Nexon, Venue and Vitara Brezza.
To be launched in India in H2 2020.
Likely to get three engines and two transmission options.
As Auto Expo 2020 is approaching, preparations by the manufacturers are running in full swing to make an impact at the automotive extravaganza. One such brand is Kia Motors whose innings in India have been a great one so far. With just one product - Seltos currently on sale in the country, Kia has already made it to the fourth spot in the list of carmakers when it comes to sales.
Now, in order to further consolidate its position, the South-Korean automaker will be bringing multiple products at the biennial event and one of them is the Kia Sonet (QYI) compact SUV. The SUV has been snapped again very recently and this time around, it is the low-spec version that caught the attention of the lens.
Being an entry-level trim, the test mule can be seen with halogen headlamps upfront along with steel wheels. While the range-topping variants would come with all-LED headlamps and 16-inch alloy wheels, the latest set of spy images suggest that LED tail lamps would be standard across all variants. Based on the same platform as the Hyundai Venue, the upcoming Kia Sonet will have similar dimensions to the Kia Seltos.
Now coming to the powertrain, the Sonet is expected to draw power from a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that is good for developing 120hp of peak power. Besides, there will also be a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine on offer that would be good for churning out 115hp. Last, a 1.5-litre diesel will complete the line up that will shed 115 horses. Transmission options will include a six-speed manual along with a seven-speed DCT.
The Kia Sonet will be unveiled at the Auto Expo 2020 and will hit the showrooms in the second half of 2020. The Sonet will rub shoulders with the likes of the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue and the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza in the segment. Before the wrap-up, an interesting fact here! It has to be noted that the nomenclature of the upcoming Kia Sonet is in sync with the brand’s global models like Stonic, Seltos, Soul, Sportage, Sedona, and Sorento as all these names start with the letter ‘S’.
More details to spill at the biennial event, so stay tuned with us for all the action!
