Kia Motors, today started the trial production at its new world-class manufacturing plant in Anantapur, in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.
Along with the newly constructed facility, the occasion also marks the entry of the new flagship Kia SP2i SUV – based on the Kia SP Concept. The much-awaited Kia SUV was earlier displayed as a concept at the 2018 Auto Expo in India.
Kia kicked off the trial run of the manufacturing operations with an opening ceremony. The event at the new Kia facility in Anantapur was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu.
The occasion was also presided over by Mr Shin Bongkil, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to India along with Mr Han-Woo Park, President and CEO of Kia Motors Corporation and Mr Kookhyun Shim, MD and CEO of Kia Motors India.
With the launch of the Kia SP2i, the Indian market shall welcome a brand that is known for its exacting standards and strict quality control (QC) measures. Kia’s reputation for cutting-edge technology, cool and modern design will be an added bonus for potential car buyers expecting a great package from an international brand making its debut in the country.
Kia Motors India will roll out the flagship SP2i SUV as its first car for India. Currently, the trial production of the Kia SP2i will help Kia to refine its production equipment and patent technologies prior to starting series manufacturing in the second half of 2019.
