  • KTM 250 Adventure unveiled.

  • Details revealed on an Indonesian website.

  • It does not get as many premium components as 390 Adventure.

  • Might go on sale in the Indian market.

KTM has just revealed the 390 Adventure at EICMA in Milan but has also quietly unveiled the 250 Adventure, a 250cc adventure touring model based on the 390 Adventure.

The KTM 250 Adventure will follow the same format as the Duke and RC series: it will offer lower power from lower displacement and fewer features compared to the 373cc powered Adventure. As such, it gets the 250cc engine from the 250 Duke, a 259cc DOHC liquid-cooled single-cylinder motor that generates 29bhp and 24Nm. This will be mated to a six-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch.

The alloy wheels are of the same sizes as in 390 Adventure – a 19-inch front and a 17 inch rear. Tyre sizes are 100/90-19 for the front and 130/80-17 for the rear. It gets MRF tyres. The brakes have also been sourced from the 390 Duke, with a 320mm single front disc and a radially mounted fixed caliper with four pistons.

The rear brake is a 230mm disc with a single-piston floating caliper. Bosch dual-channel ABS is present, and the ABS to the rear wheel can be switched off for off-tarmac duties. The suspension consists of 43mm upside-down front forks from WP with 170mm of travel, and a rear monoshock also from WP with 177mm travel.

The only adjustment offered here is the preload for the rear – a far cry from the 390 Adventure’s fully adjustable suspension. Fuel tank capacity stands at 14.5 liters and the seat height is almost the same as the 390s, at 858mm.

Just like the 250 Duke, it gets LED DRLs but a halogen bulb for the headlamp. The instrument cluster is a color TFT screen but doesn’t seem to get Bluetooth connectivity – another feature from the 390 Adventure that has been deleted for the 250.

The Indonesian market has heavy taxes for any motorcycles displacing more than 250cc, which creates a strong case for manufacturers who are interested in the market to launch 250cc-powered versions of products that would otherwise maybe not see the light of day.

The KTM 250 Adventure will most probably make it to the Indian market well after the 390 Adventure is launched. It will plug the price gap between the KTM 390 Adventure and the Royal Enfield Himalayan nicely.
