Lamborghini Doors, Ducati Engine- Volkswagen's transformer
Snapshot: You may be wondering, what is a car doing here? The VW XL is powered by a Ducati 1199 engine, that's why!
You may be wondering that 'what does a Volkswagen is doing here on a motorcycling website?' Your doubts are justified, but once you know the truth, you will be astonished. We promise that! The Volkswagen Group is home to Supercars like Bugatti, Lamborghini, and Porsche, but this time, they have built something extraordinary. Volkswagen displayed its new XL Sport Concept at the Paris Motor Show powered by a Ducati Superleggera sourced V2 engine (yes, you read it right, the engine is a Ducati engine. Hope we sound sane now).
The XL is powered by the most powerful Ducati 1199 Superleggera V-twin engine ever, producing 197 HP @ 11000rpm. This enables Volkswagen XL Sports Concept to hit a top speed of whopping 270 kmph while the acceleration goes from 0 to 100 kmph in only 5.7 seconds. The power will be transferred to the wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Considering that this is only a 200HP generating car, the speed attained by it, in excess of 270kmph is simply incredible, thanks to the streamlining of the XL Sport's body, presence of wider tires, increased down-force and additional cooling ducts. The XL Sport is very aerodynamic and if VW is to be believed, they claim that, it is the most aerodynamic sports car ever.
Head of Volkswagen Group communications, Stephan Gruhsem, said "We've discussed production and if the response is as good as the normal XL1, then I think the decision will not be difficult." He also added "We have to see in the next weeks and months what happen. [It could go ahead] in 2015, 2016 or 2017. We try to show which synergies are possible from within our company, and this is a good example"
At this point of time there are no indications from the VW to built the XL Sport for the public. But whatsoever may be the plans of the VW, this is indeed an awesome concept.
