Jaguar Land Rover, the British luxury marquee, is all set to launch two new products in India in FY16 (2015-16). The company would firstly introduce the all-new Discovery Sport luxury compact SUV with 5+2 seating in and around July this year. It would be followed by the 2015 XE mid-sized saloon, which would be launched either by the end of 2015 or in the initial months of 2016 - most probably at 2016 Indian Auto Expo.
Talking about the Land Rover Discovery Sport, it would replace the company's highest selling model - Freelander 2 - in India. It would be assembled locally at company's Pune plant from Completely Knocked Down (CKD) kits. For the Indian market, Land Rover would offer the Discovery Sport in diesel guise only with a 2.2L, 4-pot motor. It would churn out power in two states - 147 bhp and 187 bhp. Land Rover isn't too keen on introducing a manual gearbox with the SUV in India; instead, sticking with its newly-developed 9-speed automatic transmission. As for features, it would come loaded with touch-screen infotainment system, a panoramic sunroof, leather seats, xenon headlights and dual-zone climate control as standard.
As for Jaguar XE, it made its public début at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. However, neither sales nor production of the XE has started at JLR's Solihull production plant. Jaguar would initially import the saloon from UK for sales in India, but it would definitely start its production at the Pune plant to keep the costs in check. 2015 Jaguar XE would be powered by the all-new 2.0L, 4-cylinder Ingenium diesel engine which would belt out a decent 161 bhp. However, the company would also introduce a top-of-the-trim, high-performance variant with 3.0L V6 supercharged engine, sourced from the F-type coupe. Quite similar to the Discovery Sport, it won't be available with a manual transmission and an 8-speed automatic transmission would be offered only.
