Like we said in the morning, Honda was expected to launch the third generation Activa in India today at their unspecified press conference. Now the confirmed news is coming in saying that Activa 3G has been launched at a price of 48,852 INR Ex-Showroom, Delhi. The new design for Activa sees the best scooter in the country gets minor changes like the tweaked side panels with new air inlets and get 3D ‘Activa’ badging with the 3G stickering. The front fascia gets a mild update while the tail light cluster has a new look giving the rear a revised look. The instrument console has also been updated but retains the layout from the current version.
The overall changes are on very small size and it would take a particularly keen eye to spot the difference from the old model. Nonetheless, the colour palette has been upgraded with two new shades namely Trance blue metallic and Lusty red metallic. We were looking forward to see Honda step up on the suspension levels though sadly, we still have to do with an age old trail link set-up at the front and spring loaded suspension at the rear which do not inspire much confidence. Brakes are also the same with 130 mm drum brakes at the front and rear while Combi-Braking System (CBS) is offered as optional on the higher variant. The 10-inch tubeless ‘Tuff up’ tyres are present on the new generation as well.
Honda Eco Technology (HET) helps the engine return 60 km/l (Honda claimed) on the new Activa 3G. he press conference today also saw Honda showcase the updated Dio, Shine 125, Dream Yuga and Dream Neo models for the 2015 model year. The manufacturer has sold over 10 million Activa scooters in the country and plans to launch 15 models in India this year, out of which 7 are new models and 8 are cosmetic updates.
Sadly though, we are yet to receive any news regarding the highly anticipated CBR300R and the CBR650 and Honda did not release any information about the two motorcycles which the rider community is looking forward to.
