Working for Mercedes AMG Petronas, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Lewis Hamilton is uploading photos with him sitting next to cars wearing the three-pointed star logo, but this time there was a message along with the pic: “So.... Thinking about getting this bad boy”. It seems the current F1 champion is analyzing the prospects of actually buying a Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6x6 which recently went out of production, but obviously they will make one more for the talented driver.
The car had a very steep €456,900 (34.7 million INR) starting price for its final model year, but needless to say Lewis Hamilton will get the six-wheeled off-roader with a huge discount or even for free. He already has numerous cars and one of them it’s actually one-off that was built only for him: the Pagani Zonda 760 LH.
It will be interesting to see whether the Brit will actually buy such a car especially since Formula 1 drivers and racing drivers in general prefer purchasing high-performance cars rather than off-road beasts like this one. For example, Fernando Alonso has already expressed his interest in buying the second generation of the Honda/Acura NSX which from what we heard has been delayed until the spring of next year.
Another relevant example would have to be Felipe Massa who owns a black LaFerrari while Jenson Button acquired a McLaren P1, so seeing the Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6x6 among so many supercars will certainly make Lewis Hamilton stand out even more.
As for the six-wheeler, it weighs a hefty 3,850 kg and is powered by a 5.5-liter V8 turbocharged engine delivering 544 bhp and 750 Nm to all three axles with help from a 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission which had to be modified specifically for this specialty model of which only a handful of units were ever made, with production believed to stand at just 20-30 units.
