Lewis Hamilton is now three times F1 world champion

Snapshot: Hamilton has been officially crowned as the 2015 Formula One World Champion with three races remaining in the season.

And it's done! Hamilton has been officially crowned as the 2015 Formula One World Champion with three races remaining in the season. Yes, that's the amount of point gap between him and Sebastian Vettel, who is in the second spot right now that even if Hamilton doesn't earn a single point for the next 3 races, he will still be the champion.

Lewis Hamilton took the victory at the Circuit of Americas, Texas, U.S to become the world champion for the third time in his career, second in a row. Not only this, the 10th victory at Austin also placed Hamilton among the only 10 drivers in the history to win the Formula One for three times and the only Briton to do so since 1973.

And don't just take a gasp yet, the record breaking spree is not over yet. Hamilton, in the process of becoming the world champion, also becomes the first Briton among the 15 world champions to take the crown back-to-back. This is the 43th race victory for Hamilton, who moved ahead of Sebastian Vettel at the third spot to win most races. First two are Micahel Schumacher (91) and Alain Prost (51).

Hamilton now joins the elitist of the race car drivers in the Formula One to win three or more championships. The list includes the likes of Michael Schumacher (7), Juan Manuel Fangio (5), Alain Prost (4), Sebastian Vettel (4), Jack Brabham (3), Jackie Stewart (3), Niki Lauda (3), Nelson Piquet (3) and his childhood idol Ayrton Senna (3).

"It's difficult to find the words really. I owe it all to my dad and family who supported me all these years and sacrificed so much," said Hamilton. "It's a very humbling experience, especially to equal Ayrton Senna [on three world titles] - I feel very blessed today. It's the greatest moment of my life. I pushed and pushed - I hope I can inspire people to never give up. It's just crazy to think I'm now a three-time world champion."

And now that we have talked enough about Hamilton, let's give the due credit to the other drivers. While Nico Rosberg finished second in the other Mercedes, third spot win by Sebastian Vettel pushed him to overall second spot in the championship table. Max Verstappen leveled his career-best result with fourth place for Toro Rosso.

Sergio Perez finished fifth in his Force India car followed by Jenson button in his McLaren in the sixth spot. Torro Rosso's Carlos Sainz finished seventh ahead of Pastor Maldonado in Lotus, Felipe Nasr in Sauber and Daniel Ricciardo from Red Bull, hence completing the top 10 from the Texas.
