Toyota’s luxury brand Lexus, will be launching three models in India. The bookings for the same will start from November and the deliveries from March 2017. Mumbai will be the first Indian city to get a Lexus dealership which will be operational before the launch of the cars.
Taj Santacruz hotel, located next to Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, will house the first luxury dealership. RX450h, LX450d SUVs and the ES300h sedan will be the first three models to be launched. All the vehicles will be directly imported via the CBU route from Japan. However, the Japanese automaker is getting all set to locally assemble its cars in India after a while.
All the car models will include each and every spec and feature bestowed upon the Japanese models apart from the navigation system owing to the difficulty faced in configuring Indian maps on imported cars.
The Lexus RX450h comes with a 3.5-litre V6 petrol motor along with a hybrid system and is similar to the one found in the Prius. The total output will be 308 HP and will come mated to an e-CVT gearbox. It will get 18-inch wheels for improvement in ride quality.
The Lexus ES300h sedan is the second of the three cars about to grace the Indian soil. It is powered by a 2.5-litre engine along with electric motors which is the same one found in the Toyota Camry and is mated to the same CVT gearbox. It will be locally assembled in India thanks to the extensive part sharing with the Camry.
The Lexus LX is the next car to be released in India. The petrol form is powered comes with a 5.7-litre V8 engine that churns 383HP of power and 546Nm of torque. The diesel variant produces 269 HP of power and 650Nm of torque. The same engines are the same ones found on the Toyota Land Cruiser. The pricing of the car is expected to start from Rs 1 Crore.
Lexus is not a brand Indian car buyers are familiar with when it comes to the luxury segment. This will allow the manufacturer to cash in on its premium image. Toyota will also provide high-end customer service.
