Lexus, which is the luxury brand of Toyota is all set to mark its entry in India by the first half of 2017. The luxury brand will launch three models in India, which are, Lexus RX450h, Lexus ES300h and the Lexus LX. The Japanese brand has already imported some of its RX450h SUVs mostly for demos and test drives. So, one can assume that the first car under the Lexus brand in India will be the RX450h.
The SUV will hit the Indian shores as CBUs, but the company is also planning to produce its products at Toyota’s factory which is situated in Karnataka. This hybrid SUV will be benefited from central government’s FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric vehicles in India) tax incentive. However, the SUV will cost higher as it will be imported as CBU. One can easily expect the SUV to be priced within the range to 80 - 85 lakhs.
The Hybrid SUV is powered by a 3.5-litre V6 engine, which is coupled with an electric motor. The hybrid motor can churn out a maximum power of 300 bhp and 361 nm of maximum torque, which makes it a quite powerful SUV. The engine is further connected to a brilliant 8-speed automatic transmission, that sends all the power to the wheels of the SUV. The global version of this popular luxurious vehicle comes with the option of two wheel drive and all wheel drive.
In terms of dimensions, the SUV measures 4,890 mm in length, 1,895 mm in width and 1,690 mm in height, it also boasts of a decently long wheelbase of 2,790 mm. The latest 2017 model of the RX450h is 120mm longer, 10mm wider and 35mm lower than the older generation model, while the company has also increased the wheelbase by 50mm.
Lexus has made this SUV quite safe with dual front, front knee, front and rear side, and side curtain airbags, traction and stability control system, EBD (Electronic Brake-Force Distribution) and tire-pressure monitoring system as standard, when it comes to passenger safety. Additionally, it also gets pre-collision automation with pedestrian detection, dynamic radar cruise control, LED headlamps, intelligent high-beams, lane departure warning and lane keep assist as optional safety features.
