Snapshot: Only the diesel-engined variant is being offered in two trims: Premium Luxury & Portfolio; Petrol variants will debut at a later stage.

After the national debut of the locally assembled Jaguar XJ premium sedan that got underway in May 2014, the British marquee has rolled out the model in the local market of Coimbatore this week with prices starting at Rs 93.74 lakh (ex-showroom, Coimbatore.)

The model that is now being assembled at the company plant in Pune is being offered in two trim levels: the XJ 3.0 Premium Luxury that has been priced at Rs 93.74 lakh and the XJ 3.0 Premium Portfolio that will retail at Rs 1.45 crore (Both prices are ex-showroom, Coimbatore.) With these prices, the locally assembled model of the XJ has resulted into a price drop of almost Rs 24 lakh, as compared to the model that used to be imported as a CBU (Completely Built Unit.)

The diesel powered 2014 Jaguar XJ is making use of a 3.0-litre V6 unit that is rated at 275PS of max power and 600Nm of peak torque. The engine sends power to the rear wheels via an 8-Speed automatic gearbox. The 0 to 100 kmph mark is reached in 6.4 seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 250 kmph.

New additions in the 2014 Jaguar XJ in terms of features include, ‘airline’ style reclining seats with massage function, increased headroom, LED reading lights and fold-out business tables. The rear suspension too, has been re-tuned to enhance rear seat ride comfort. Also on offer is an optional rear seat entertainment package that includes, two rear seat touch screens, mounted on the back of front seat headrests. The XJ also features an updated start-stop system, which uses a Twin Solenoid Starter (TSS) to shut down the engine when the car stops, and restarts as soon as the driver accelerates.

The 2014 Jaguar XJ Facelift is being imported into the country via the CKD route and is being assembled at the Jaguar-Land Rover’s plant in Pune, where the XF and the Land Rover Freelander2 are already being put together. India gets the Long Wheel Base (LWB) edition of the XJ and therefore, will rival the likes of Mercedes Benz S-Class, the BMW 7-Series and the 2014 Audi A8L.
