So the 2016 MotoGP season has kick-started and Jorge Lorenzo took the world by surprise by winning the opening MotoGP race at Qatar. He was followed by Ducati factory rider Andrea Dovizioso who grabbed 2nd position and Honda rider Marc Marquez came at third. The opening race didn’t prove to be as lucky for Yamaha rider Valentino Rossi as he saw seen struggling with his M1 during the race and was forced to settle for 4th position in Qatar GP.
Initially the Ducati pair, Dovizioso and his teammate Andrea Iannone started off the race strongly but as the race progressed Lorenzo was able to chase down the pair and passed them both and maintained a clear gap that none of them was able to close. After which Marc Marquez intervened and fought with Dovezioso for 2nd but the GP16 was seen in fully glory at the QatarGP and so Marc had to settle for 3rd overall giving Dovezioso 2nd position in the race.
Valentino Rossi bumped in quite a few times but was never able to break the pace of his team mate and first race didn’t quite went according to #VR46’s plans, leaving the Italian on 4th position.
Dani Pedrosa took 5th position followed by Maverick Viñales, Pol Espargaro and Bradley Smith at 6th, 7th and 8th respectively.
Valentino Rossi: “At the end it was a great race, the pace was very fast from the beginning to the end, but unfortunately I stayed behind and I didn‘t have enough speed to try and attack. I was there but I was never in the real fight, I was always a little bit behind. We need a faster pace and maybe the tyre choice can make some difference, but we don‘t know. Maybe with the soft tyre I could go faster or I could go slower. We arrived behind and unfortunately didn‘t get on the podium, but it was a good race anyway, with a good start. We are there, we have to work, but for sure we are competitive. Last year in Argentina was a great race, one of the best with a great pace and I was coming from behind, but this year it will be a different story, especially with the tyres. We need to understand our potential this year.”
