Homegrown automaker, Mahindra will officially launch the new Mahindra Alturas premium SUV on November 24, 2018. The company has already started dispatching the model to its dealerships across India. Ahead of its launch, new details of the Alturas SUV have been released online. Interested buyers can pre-book the SUV at an initial amount of Rs 50,000, while deliveries are being promised towards the end of this month. The token amount is refundable only for those who booked this SUV before 1st of December.
Based on the second-gen SsangYong Rexton, the Mahindra Alturas will challenge the likes of Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. The SUV will be on display in Mahindra showrooms from November 26, 2018. Prospective buyers will have a chance to test-drive and take a feel of this new model. There will be separate premium zone for the display of this 7-seater premium SUV.
The 7-seater Mahindra Alturas will come in five exterior paint schemes - New Pearl White, Lakeside Brown, Napoli Black, Dast Silver and Regal Blue. The SUV will be offered in two variants only - G2 and G4 - both will be offered in all 5 paint schemes. While the former will come as a front-wheel-drive model, the G4 variant will be offered with all-wheel-drive layout. The top-spec model will also be offered with electric sunroof.
Under the hood is a 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, which also powers the global Rexton. This engine is capable of producing 180.5bhp of power and 450Nm of torque, which makes it more powerful than the Fortuner. Power will be transmitted to the wheels via a 7-speed automatic gearbox sourced from Mercedes-Benz. The SUV won't come in manual option, though a possible manual Alturas launch in 2019 can't be ignored.
The Mahindra Alturas will be equipped with several high-end comfort and convenience features. It will get a 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Navigation and reverse camera. Other features will include Nappa leather upholstery, electrically adjustable front seats with memory function, 3-zone climate control, etc. In terms of safety, the SUV will offer 9 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, traction control, hill launch assist, rollover mitigation, etc. The new Mahindra Alturas is expected to undercut the prices of its direct rivals Toyota Fortuner & Ford Endeavour. The SUV is likely to be priced under Rs 30 lakh.
