India’s leading SUV manufacturer and also a global automotive and technology company, Mahindra made its most anticipated entry into the UK automotive car passenger market, by launching its pure electric city cars e2o in two grades - City and TechX. The entry level e2o City has been launched at a retail price of £12,995, while the higher-spec TechX version is priced at £15,995. The launch event held at the London’s Design Museum, where the unveiling of prices and specs was done by the Mahindra Group Chairman, Anand Mahindra.
Speaking about the e2o’s arrival on British roads, Anand Mahindra, Chairman, Mahindra Group, said, “I am very proud to announce that the e2o is now available in the UK and this marks a true milestone for the Mahindra Group. The UK-spec Mahindra e2o is enhanced with more safety features like dual SRS airbags, Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and a Regenerative Braking System (RBS). It also features daytime running lights with fog lights, keyless entry and push-button start, a larger battery, electric windows and wing mirrors.
The core of the e2o gets a collection of connected features, developed to make the car both easier and more enjoyable to drive. The e2o is benefitted by a Revive remote emergency charging feature that grant the driver for the extra 8 miles worth of range when the battery is depleted, on-board sensors that keeps a check of the vehicle’s system and health monitoring. Not to forget, the Remote Charging Scheduler, which is an intelligent app that allows the owner to schedule charging of their e2o when electricity costs are at their cheapest rate.
The e2o also features e2o Remote smartphone app that allows its user to remotely control key functions like pre-heating or cooling the car, start and stop charging, route plan and search for nearby charging stations. The top-ranging variant is loaded with the Blaupunkt touchscreen infotainment centre, reverse camera and Satellite navigation.
The UK-spec Mahindra e2o gets its power from a 13.9 kWh lithium-ion battery where the electric motor produces 42 bhp and 90.8 Nm of torque. It accelerates from 0 - 40 kmph in 4.9 seconds and 18 seconds to reach 0 - 80 kmph with a top speed of 101 kmph. With the use of the Rapid (CHAdeMO) charge port, offered in the e2o TechX, the battery can be charged to 95 percent in just 90 minutes, while with the standard 3 kW charge port, it takes 9 hours to fully charge the e2o. The TechX grade driving range is 127 km with an 13 km Revive range for an emergency battery-drain situation.
