Mahindra eKUV100 Likely To Be Priced Rs 9 Lakh; Launch at Auto Expo 2020

Mahindra & Mahindra, the home-grown automaker, will present an all-electric car at the Auto Expo 2020 which will be priced under Rs 9 Lakhs (ex. showroom) in the country. The new all-electric vehicle, in all likelihood, will be the eKUV100. In addition, the company is expected to launch Atom, India's first electric quadricycle, at the 2020 Auto Expo. Mahindra Atom is developed to ensure last-mile connectivity identical to Alfa Mini & Treo, which are currently on sale in the Indian market.

Mr. Pawan Goenka, Managing Director, Mahindra & Mahindra, said that the future is all about electric mobility and hence the company is working on various products to enhance shared mobility. He further said that pricing is a crucial aspect and therefore Mahindra is introducing the sub-9 Lakh SUV.

Mahindra eKUV100 Front

The Mumbai-based conglomerate is also looking forward to launching the Mahindra XUV300 in an electric avatar by 2021. It is said to be having a driving range of 300-400 km on a single charge. It has planned an investment of Rs 1000 Crores in the EV segment for research and development purposes. Out of this, Rs 500 Crores will be invested in setting up a high powered battery charger, cells, and other equipment at Chakan while the rest of the money will be utilized at the Bengaluru facility of Mahindra Electric.

Mahindra Electric, the EV wing of the company, has already sold nearly 27000+ vehicles across the three-wheeler and four-wheeler segment. The Mahindra e-Verito sedan for personal buyers is priced at Rs 12 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, Delhi). As it is quite evident that EVs hold the key for the future, Mahindra is working towards achieving a target of 50 percent in the shared mobility by 2030 while experts have estimated 35 percent vehicle usage as shared by then. The company has planned to introduce 2-3 new vehicles in the e-mobility space in the near future for personal buyers in the Indian market, which could be launched in a phased wise manner by 2022.
