Mahindra is one ambitious company, and it has got enough talent and resources to excel in any field or challenge they choose for themselves. Whether it be taking over another SUV manufacturer to an almost fairy-talish participation in the Moto 3 Motorcycle Racing Championship, Mahindra just does it with style.
To take another challenge, in the land of Off-Road enthusiasts Mahindra has taken up another challenge. Mahindra USA has joined hands with American off-road vehicles manufacturer Intimidator Inc. to develop and manufacture a range of all terrain vehicles under the brand name Mahindra mPact XTV. The all-new range of ATVs will be made in the US and make their sales debut next year in the country. The company will roll out six new products through its American dealership network taking help from the already established Mahindra's Tractor business, and is targeting to begin in early 2015. Mr. Mani Iyer, President, Mahindra USA, has announced that the Indian automaker will invest more in the ATV JV for new product development.
The mPact XTV’s will come with standard features such as 4WD, 14-inch aluminium wheels that are shod with all-terrain tyres of 27-inch diameter, ground clearance of 305 mm, front and rear receiver hitches, and loading bay with payload capacity of up to 1,200 pounds (544 kg). The range will have a towing capacity of up to 2,100 pounds (952 kg). The initial range will include Standard (three passengers with cargo), Crew (six passengers with cargo) and Longbed (three passengers with extra cargo area that folds to form a flatbed) variants. The three body styles will be available with both petrol and diesel engines, details of which will be available closer to the launch.
The plan is to manufacture the product line at the Intimidator's facility at Batesville, Arkansas, the mPact is expected to add 150 new jobs. Targeted primarily at American customers, the ATV range is unlikely to make it to India in the near future.
