Come 13th September, Motorsports world will go all electric. Yes, electric it is! Tomorrow will mark the day in history of Motorsports as the first ever electric F1 known as Formula E championship will commence in Beijing, China. And guess what, our very own Mahindra Racing is taking part in it. Already a well known name in Moto3 circuit, this will be a first for Mahindra in the F1 division.
In all 10 races will be held during the season. Total 10 teams will be pitted against each other having 2 drivers each. For season1, Formula E will only allow 'Spark-Renault SRT_01E Formula E' cars, with each driver having 2 cars. From season two, Formula E will become an 'open championship' allowing teams to design and develop their own cars following FIA's technical specifications.
Star of the event definitely will be Mahindra Racing having both experienced F1 racing drivers, Karun Chandok and Bruno Senna (we have few of the Indian connection in Formula E, proud moment indeed). There seems to be a family tree running around Formula E. Four time world champion, Alain Prost and three time world champion, Nelson Piquet have their son competing against each other. Nicolas Prost and Nelson Piquet Jr. will have a lot of expectations on their shoulders.

Chetan Maini, Director of Formula E Racing & CEO Mahindra Reva said that “The Formula E series has already created a significant interest globally and this race will provide the necessary impetus to the EV ecosystem, serving as a platform to propel R&D around the electric vehicle industry and pave the way for a sustainable future. The race will be an amalgamation of kinesthetic intelligence, technology and design, exemplifying the importance of electric vehicles in the context of modern mobility,”
We think that Formula E is a great initiative towards environment as well as to enlighten people who think electric vehicles are boring and they have no role among other Hydrocarbon burning fast moving vehicles. Mahindra Racing is doing great work here raising awareness in India about regarding electric vehicles. We wish them all the luck!
