Mahindra India has launched the special edition of the Mahindra Gusto in the country, named as Gusto RS. The company had previously announced that it will not be producing any mass-market segment products and will only be focusing on the production of niche products like Mojo, BSA and Jawa. However, the launch of the new scooter in the mass-market segment clearly indicates that the company is looking to clear the existing stocks.

The automaker has timed the launch very well, that is, amidst festive vacation. The special edition of the scooter has received some cosmetic updates and comes with the same engine mechanism under the hood. It comes with a 110 cc motor rather than the standard version, which comes in both 110 cc and 125 cc.

The exterior design and styling of the scooter have been retained. However, it has been offered in a new paint scheme and a new RS badging. It features a dual-tone color scheme and the options available are - a red and white theme, as well as a blue and white theme. The striking new options of paints and graphics set it apart from the single-tone color theme of the regular models.

The new Mahindra Gusto RS is offered with the same suspension system, which includes a telescopic fork at the front and a coil-like setup at the rear. As far as the safety of the rider is concerned, the scooter offers a 130 mm drum brakes at both the wheels.

Mechanically, the RS edition of the two-wheeler has received no change and derives its power from the same 109.6 cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine. The engine is good enough to produce a maximum power output of 8 bhp against a peak torque of 9 Nm. The engine comes paired to a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) gearbox. It returns an average mileage of 63 kmpl, which is quite a commendable figure in this segment.

The Mahindra Gusto RS is competitively priced at Rs. 48,180 (ex-showroom, Delhi). Moreover, the company is offering a cashback of Rs. 6,000 through PayTM transaction as a Diwali offer to its customers till October 20, 2017. In the highly competitive segment, the fresh model of Mahindra will provide a stiff competition to the likes of Honda Activa 4G, TVS Jupiter and Hero Maestro Edge.
