At an event Mahindra unveiled the first official photos of the new Mahindra KUV100, their upcoming compact SUV. Talking about its name, the nomenclature stands for for ‘Kool Utility Vehicle’, and will be available in four variants K2, K4, K6 and K8. It is designed to impress the young, and the brand has also revealed that they have taken inputs from their newly acquired world famous car design firm Pininfarina for the KUV100.
Mahindra claims that KUV100 is the first version of its kind, though it's an SUV, but the price will dominate to the likes of Hyundai Grand i10, Maruti Swift, Tata Bolt, etc. Thereby, giving its buyers an option of making an SUV as their first car. This SUV will pack Mahindra’s new range of petrol and diesel engines, which has been developed with their South Korean subsidiary SsangYong.
Mahindra KUV100 will be introduced with the new mFalcon 1.2 litre three cylinder petrol and diesel engine options, along with other family of engines are 1.5 litre and 1.6 litre. Speaking about the engine, the one in petrol is a mFalcon G80 and it is an all aluminium MPFI engine which produces 82 bhp and 114 Nm peak of torque. And the one in diesel is called mFalcon D75, which is a turbocharged common rail diesel engine that delivers 77 bhp and 190 Nm peak of torque. As of now, only 5 speed manual transmission developed by Aisin will be on offer.
It is expected that Mahindra KUV100 petrol version will be priced between Rs 4-6 lakh, while the diesel variant can get a price tag in the range of Rs 4.6 – 7.5 lakh.
