Mahindra launches 1.99-litre diesel engine for Scorpio,XUV500

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, the homegrown car manufacturer and a part of the US $ 16.9 billion Mahindra Group announced the launch of its new 1.99-litre mHawk diesel engine variant. This engine will be used to power the New Generation Scorpio as well as the New Age XUV500. The new engine variant would be available for customers within the Delhi and NCR Region to begin with.

Speaking on this occasion, Pravin Shah, President & Chief Executive (Automotive), Mahindra & Mahindra emphasized, “This new engine, the development of which started in August 2014, is now ready for launch on both the New Generation Scorpio and the New Age XUV500. We do hope that our customers would enjoy driving these vehicles which deliver the performance of our currently on offer 2.2 litre mHawk engines”.

The new 1.99 litre diesel motor will power the New Generation Scorpio that will deliver 120 HP while the New Age XUV500 which will be this diesel unit will churn out 140 HP of power. As of yet, the company has not revealed the price of the New Age XUV and the New-Gen Scorpio equipped with this motor. It seems the brand has strategized it quite well, due to the ordeals of the 2000 cc diesel engine banning.
