At the time when we are expecting an official announcement for the launch of next-generation Scorpio, Mahindra has announced a new limited edition of the existing model in our market. The new 'Special Edition' is limited to production of only 500 units and will sport several cosmetic changes but no mechanical changes. Prices and trim levels of the new edition have not been declared as yet.

The new special edition will be finished in pearl white body color and features extensive use of leather inside to accentuate the premium feel in the cabin. Beige and tan are the chosen interior colours and the steering wheel and gear-knob will also be wrapped in leather. A 9-inch DVD display will be positioned centrally on roof while 5-spoke alloy wheels freshen up the exterior. The rest of the fitments will remain same.

The new model will continue to get powered by the 2.2-litre mHawk CRDe engine that produces 120 BHP at 4000 RPM and 290 Nm of torque between 1800 and 2800 RPM. The new edition is likely to be based on VLX variant that comes with a 5-speed manual transmission delivering power to the rear wheels. However, it has not been confirmed whether the model will be available with automatic transmission or four-wheel drive modes as well.

Mahindra has been testing the Scorpio facelift since quite a while on the Indian roads. It was expected to be launched middle of the year, and this model meanwhile seems to be a stop-gap arrangement to keep the excitement alive.
