Mahindra Two Wheelers might be off to a good start but the manufacturer has a long way to go before it poses as a huge threat to the Heroes and the Hondas. But Mahindra doesn’t necessarily have to follow the path chosen by others, either. The market has matured, and if there’s a 300cc bike ready to be launched, and a few French scooters (Peugeots) that could be considered for India, you might as well take the road less taken.
According to a report on Top Gear India, the Indian automotive firm’s executive director Dr Pawan Goenka has mentioned the possibility of Peugeot scooters being made available in the country. The Metropolis three-wheeler, the Django, the Satelis 125, and the Speedfight 3 look like the possible candidates for Peugeot’s line up for India.
But Peugeot? Just to remind you, Mahindra bought a majority stake in the company’s two-wheeler arm in October last year. And what’s up with the Mojo? Showcased back at the 2010 Auto Expo, the naked bike by Mahindra has been in news for a long time now. According to the same report, Dr Goenka has confirmed that the bike will be launched in September this year, while the Peugeots will take a bit longer.
Powering the Mojo will be a single-cylinder, four-stroke 295cc engine. Headline figures include an expected power output of 27 hp and 25Nm of maximum torque. It will be mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
