Mahindra Racing collects second podium in the inaugural Marrakesh Formula E

Snapshot: This is the second podium win for Mahindra Racing and the first ever pole position in the round two of the 2016-17 FIA Formula E Championship.

Mahindra Racing, a fully-owned subsidiary of India's Mahindra and Mahindra automobile group is slowly and steadily making a big name in the racing world. The active participation of the team in the all-electric Formula E championship has started to bear fruit in the racing cup. Mahindra Racing has managed to clinch a second podium with a third place finish at the Marrakesh ePrix.

The inaugural Marrakesh FE also saw the first ever pole position victory for Mahindra Racing driven by Felix Rosenqvist. Swede Felix Rosenqvist finished third during his second Formula E race, increasing a hope for the Indian outfit. The 2016-2017 Formula E Championship is in its second round now and the current round took place in Africa.

As for the race, Felix Rosenqvist lead the race for 27 laps after starting the race from the pole. The semi-permanent street circuit is the longest in Formula E history with a length of 2.971km, and puts a pressure on the energy management for the entire field. Mahindra Racing is currently developing M3Electro powertrain for the season three and the victory helps underline the development of the system.

The African leg of the Formula E took 33 laps to complete and was won by e-dams' driver Sebastian Buemi who was driving a Renault FE car. Virgin's Sam Bird secured the second spot in the DS-Virgin car. Mahindra's second driver Nick Heidfeld finished in the top 10 at the ninth spot, while e.dams' second driver Nicolas Prost finished fourth. Both the Abt drivers finished 5th and 6th.

NextEV, Techeetah, and the second Virgin car finished 7th, 8th and 10th respectively, completing the top 10 of the Africa FE. The 25-year-old Felix has 19 points now and stands at the fourth spot in the Drivers’ Championship. With this win, Mahindra Racing has been elevated to joint second in the Teams’ Championship.

The next race is stopped for now and the next race will take place on 18th February in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
