Mahindra reveals TVC for the new Scorpio

Snapshot: The new commercial shows the aggressive market strategy adopted by the Mahindra to push sales for the new version.

The recently launched Mahindra Scorpio facelift has got a new TV commercial. Mahindra launched the six new versions of their popular Scorpio named S2, S4, S6, S6+, S8 and S10. New Scorpio boasts of a long presence in the Indian market, which saw many people and the government both accepting it as a masculine SUV. The new commercial shows the aggressive market strategy adopted by the Mahindra to push sales for the new version.

Mahindra Scorpio is being widely considered as one of the favorite SUVs in India powered by two engine variants. The m2DICR engine will be a 4 cylinder, 2.5 litre, turbo charged CRDI engine producing 75 bhp @ 3200 rpm and 200 Nm of torque between 1400 – 2200 rpm. The mHawk engine is a 2179 cc, 4-cylinder unit producing 120 bhp at 4000 rpm and 280 Nm of torque between 1800 – 2800 rpm. The outdated SUV got a new lease of life with all the cosmetic tweaks both inside and outside combined with new age features.

Mahindra wanted to portray the car as not only a people SUV, but a rugged and capable off-roader too. This gave birth to the new TVC where, one can see a horse stuck in the pile of mud, unable to get out. The owner pulls him out with the help of the Scorpio (yes, no animal was hurt during the shoot, as they say). And then a plane sprays lot of water (wastage of a natural resource, we say) on the Scorpio to remove the dirt and all, revealing the car in white. A lot of emphasis is thrown on the handsome features like the front grille, aggressive front styling, sturdy wheels, dual projector headlamps, new tailgate and the futuristic instrument cluster. The whole aim of the TVC is to showcase how easy it is for the Scorpio to traverse any kind of terrains.

Mahindra Scorpio will be facing a competition from the Tata Safari, Renault Duster (in its newly launched AWD avatar) and the Mahindra's own XUV500. Priced at around Rs 8 lakh for the base version and going up to Rs 11.5 lakh for the top end version, the Scorpio is a nice offering for the low cost SUV segment supported by the Mahindra's brand name.
