Mahindra & Mahindra, the home-grown automajor, has been testing its Ford EcoSport rival (S101 codenamed) in the country for quite a long time now. It has been captured several times with heavy camouflage as test mule near company's plant. Now, the folks at Autocar India have been successful in clicking the first interior image of the Mahindra's sub-compact SUV S101, which would launch around the festive season this year.
Going by the lone spy-shot that we have, one can clearly see a 3-spoke steering wheel and a contemporary black dashboard with silver accents. The centre console comprises of two rectangular-shaped A/C vents at the top, while there is a multimedia system with screen and various buttons beneath it. In addition, the A/C controls are designed in a vertical sequence to the bottom. Moreover, the gear-level is mounted on the dash, which confirm that it would carry a bench seat at the front row and come with a 3+3 seating configuration. It would be directly pitted against Ford's EcoSport and due to complete localization, it is expected to come with an extremely aggressive price domain.
Powering the Mahindra S101 would be a 1.2L, 3-cylinder petrol engine, for which the company has teamed up with its Korean subsidiary, SsangYong. It is expected that company would offer it in diesel guise as well with a 1.5L motor. Rumormills are stating that it would be available with both manual as well as automated manual transmission (AMT). It well could become the country's first SUV to feature AMT.
