Codenamed the S101, the rumoured compact SUV from Mahindra has been in the pipelines for quite some time. And now, thanks to Autocar magazine, a sneak preview of how the EcoSport rivalling mini-SUV might look like is available.
Judging by the above rendering the car looks like a mini-me XUV500 and may go by the name of XUV3OO when it hits the showrooms. It will feature a monocoque chassis with a transverse engine layout. The S101 will measure less than 4 metres in length and might be powered by a diesel engine under 1500 cc capacity. Both these factors will help the compact SUV avail tax benefits allowing Mahindra to price the product competitively.
And it needs to be as much prepared as possible when it goes up against the likes of the Ford Ecosport and other compact SUVs which may come to the Indian market like the Honda Vezel, Maruti Suzuki XA Alfa, etc.
It is also believed that the Mahindra Quanto's 1.5 litre three-cylinder twin turbo diesel engine may just make it to the S101 albeit with some minor tweeks to enhance fuel efficiency and refinement. Mahindra may claim a fuel consumption figure of as much as 23 kmpl for the S101 compact SUV.
We expect the S101 to get an Automatic transmission for the top end diesel variant. The SUV might feature the audio-visual-navigation package found in the XUV500, an auto climate control, steering mounted audio control and safety features such as ABS, EBD and airbags.
