Mahindra plans to launch four different cars in the Indian market in the financial year 2018-19 and two of them will be the much awaited S201 compact SUV and U321 MPV. Both these cars are expected to be launched in the domestic market during the festive season this year. No wonder, by launching these models, Mahindra will be able to strengthen its presence in the UV segment of the country market.
The Mahindra S201 is based on the same platform as the SsangYong Tivoli. This compact SUV will be launched in two different variants, a five-seater one and a seven-seater one. The five-seater one will be introduced first. This compact SUV will target the tough rivals like Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport. Fir power source, the Mahindra S201 will use a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol and a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine in both the variants.
On the other hand, Mahindra S201 seven-seater model will rival with competitors like Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster, Maruti Suzuki Duster with competitive pricing. Also, this car would snatch away some customers from the Mahindra Scorpio as well. It could be launched soon after the five-seater variant. Both the variants of the S201 will carry a modern and bold design language and they will come loaded with wide range of advanced features.
Speaking about the Mahindra U321, this MPBV will challenge the Toyota Innova Crysta, which dominates the country’s MPV market. It comes wearing an aggressive design that grabs attention very easily. It will be available in both seven-seater and eight-seater versions. For power source, this MPV will use a new 1.6-litre diesel engine developed in association with SsangYong. At later stage, we might see the homegrown auto manufacturer introducing a petrol engine as well. Expect this MPV to be priced very competitively.
