Mahindra’s upcoming compact SUV codenamed S201 is in the final phase of testing and is expected to be positioned at the higher end of the compact SUV space. The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza rival is based on the modified version of SsangYong Tivoli platform. It is reported that Mahindra will pack the SUV with a bunch of unique features to give it an edge over other top-selling models in the segment.

The list of features on the upcoming Mahindra S201 SUV is likely to include a panoramic sunroof, cruise control and a large touchscreen. There could be a dual-zone automatic climate control system as well. Other features such as LED headlamps, daytime running lights and 17.0-inch alloy wheels are expected to be restricted to the fully-loaded top-spec trim. It could also be the first subcompact SUV in the segment to offer disc brakes at both ends. As for the safety is concerned, the Mahindra S201 will come loaded with seven airbags, anti-lock-braking system, rear parking sensors and ESP.

Power source on the S201 will be a diesel unit that is said to be more powerful than the rivals. That said, Mahindra is expected to use the 1.5-litre, four cylinder oil burner with maximum power of 123 bhp. In addition, there will be a new 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine that will be introduced with the S201. Known for its wide range of utility vehicles, Mahindra is readying for the launch of its flagship SUV, codenamed Y400 in the country. This model will sit above the XUV500 model in the company’s product range.
