Mahindra is readying a couple of new models including the SsangYong Tivoli-based SUV which is yet in testing phase. Being developed under the codename S201, a test mule has been caught undergoing trials on the suburbs of Chennai. The spy images of the prototype revealing the cabin have gone viral on the inter-web, though it does not reveal much about the exterior styling and design.
On the inside, it features a dual-tone dashboard with a large touchscreen display with control buttons and dial placed below it. The vertically positioned air con vents are finished in glossy black colour and there is a large console below that which features the climate control system and buttons for other in-car functions. It additionally gets two USB ports, AUX-in and a 12V power socket.
The spied model is ostensibly the top-spec variant of the S201 as it packs a new three-spoke steering wheel with mounted controls for audio, Bluetooth, etc. There is also a large twin-pot instrument console with a central MID and other tech such as engine start/stop button, cruise control dial, and lever for tilt adjust function.
The five-seater SUV gets all-black fabric upholstery with ergonomically designed driver and co-passenger side seats. It also gets a centre armrest which comes covered with faux leather with sliding function and storage space.
In visual terms, the Mahindra S201 is expected to take most of the cues from Tivoli. Going by the spy images, the SUV will get alloy wheels, pull type door handles, roof rails and horizontally positioned tail-lamps at the back.
Mechanically, the Mahindra S201 will get the 1.2-litre G80 turbo petrol and 1.5-litre diesel units. Reports in media suggest the SUV could also get the new 1.6-litre oil burner and the new 1.5-litre petrol unit which the company have been developing, though there is yet no confirmation on the same. As for the transmission, expect it is to get a 5-speed manual and an AMT unit.
