Mahindra has been working on its upcoming compact SUV for quite long time that is internally codenamed as S201. Based on the same platform as the SsangYong Tivoli, the Mahindra S201 has been spotted several times in the country and now once again a test mule of this SUV has been spied near Chennai. As it appears from the spy images, the company was testing the top-end trim of the model.
Upon arrival, the Mahindra S201 will compete with some really tough rivals that include Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Honda WR-V and Ford EcoSport. No wonder, it is going to be a tough job for the upcoming compact SUV to make its own space. Speaking about its design, the car will not be longer than 4 metre and despite being underpinned by the SsangYong Tivoli’s architecture it will carry several signature design elements.
It will certainly come sporting Mahindra’s fresh design language inspired by Italian design house Pininfarina’s inputs. Also, expect it to bear some elements from the Tivoli as well. Not only exterior, interior too will come sporting impressive styling and features. Also, there would be advanced safety features as well.
On the powertrain front, it will be available in both petrol and diesel engine options. Petrol variant will get energy from a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, while the diesel variant will get a 1.5-litre motor under the hood. Transmission options will include both manual and automatic gearbox and this model is likely to offer generous fuel efficiency. Expect this SV to be priced between Rs 7 - 11 lakh bracket.
