Followed by the launch of the new 1.99L mHawk diesel engine variant, Mahindra and Mahindra has finally launched the Scorpio 1.99L and the new age XUV500 1.99L in Delhi. The Mahindra Scorpio 1.99L has been priced between Rs 9.67 lakh – Rs 12.75 lakh, while the XUV500 1.99L is priced between Rs 11.58 lakh – Rs 15.51 lakh (all ex-showroom, Delhi).
There’s no change in the exterior and interior feature in both, Scorpio and XUV500, but the mHawk diesel engine has been downsized from 2.2L to 1.99L. with this Mahindra, which is the leading SUV manufacturer will be able to sell the two models that were affected by the government’s ban on registration of diesel engines displacing above 2000 cc.
The new Mahindra Scorpio as well as the new age XUV500 are powered by a 1.99-litre turbodiesel unit. Where the power output in the Scorpio is 120 HP and 280 Nm of torque, which is identical to the outgoing 2.2L unit, while the new age XUV500 produces 140 HP and 320 Nm of torque. The engine of the Scorpio and XUV500, will be available with a 5-speed and 6-speed manual transmissions, respectively. As of now, the company is offering these engine only in front-wheel drive configuration.
A few years back, ago when the government proposed higher taxes for vehicles with more than 170 mm of ground clearance and for this, the company devised a bash plate which lowered the measurable ride height of the vehicle. That actually exempted the model from the higher tax slab.
