Mahindra is testing the Scorpio automatic for long now and it is understood given the fact that this is the first automatic to come from the house of the Indian car manufacturer. Now, ever since its launch 13 years back, the Scorpio has been the poster boy for the Mahindra and with the latest update to the SUV, it was obvious that the Scorpio will get an automatic shortly.
The latest reports suggest that Mahindra has opened the booking for the Scorpio, though no official word is out from the manufacturer itself. Mahindra will only offer the Automatic in the top-spec S10 model, both in the 2W and 4W drive configuration. The name of the upcoming model would be the Scorpio S10 2WD AT and Scorpio S10 4WD AT.
Prices are yet to be unveiled and according to the sources, the automatic variants will be priced upwards of Rs 1 Lakh over and above the corresponding manual variants. Both the variants will be powered by the same 120 bhp producing 2.2-litre mHawk engine, which currently gets the 5-speed manual gearbox. The automatic gearbox would be a 6-speed unit.
There will be no change as far as looks are concerned and the only difference would be the Automatic badging in the year. The interiors are also expected to be carried forward in the automatic variants. The launch of the automatic Scorpio is seen as a strategic move to counter the Hyundai Creta launch, which is expected to be priced at Rs 13 Lakh for the automatic variant.
