Mahindra & Mahindra, the home-grown automajor, has launched the automatic version of Scorpio SUV at an introductory price of Rs 13.13 Lakhs (Ex-showroom) in the country. The automatic transmission will be offered only on the top-spec S10 variant, both in the 2WD and 4WD models. The price of the Mahindra Scorpio AT 4X4 is Rs 14.33 Lakhs (Ex-showroom). We reported you yesterday that the company has already started taking bookings for these variants, and now would go on sale shortly.
Mahindra Scorpio is now available with a total of 11 variants with two engines - a 2.5-litre M2DICR diesel engine and a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine. The former is on offer with the base S2 grade, while the latter powers all the other variants, except the S2. Under the hood, the Scorpio AT has the 2.2-litre mHawk motor as it is comes with top-of-the-range S10 variant. It belts out 120bhp of top power and 280Nm of highest torque, while available in both 4X2 and 4x4 guises. Since, it is the range-topping variant, it consists of avant-garde safety features in form of dual fron SRS airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD).
This move of Mahindra to introduce the automatic variants of Scorpio is linked with Hyundai Creta's launch as creta would be the only vehicle in its segment to offer an automatic gearbox. However, Hyundai Creta is not a direct competitor to Mahindra Scorpio, instead it would lock horns with the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano, and Maruti S-Cross. But, still the home-grown automajor intends to take advantage by introducing automatic variants ahead of Creta's launch on July 21. Just so you know, Hyundai Creta has created such a rage nationwide that it has recorded over 10,000 bookings even prior to its launch.
